NETTAG+ First Annual Meeting

The NETTAG+ project, coordinated by CIIMAR, hosted its first Annual Meeting in Matosinhos on May 13-14, 2024. This pivotal gathering brought together project partners, members of the Advisory Board, and the Project Officer to review progress, plan future activities, and foster collaboration.

The first day of the meeting focused on presenting the progress made during the inaugural year of the project. Partners shared updates on their respective tasks, highlighting significant milestones achieved in developing innovative solutions to prevent, avoid, and mitigate the environmental impacts of abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear (ALDFG). Discussions emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among the fisheries industry, scientists, and NGOs to meet the project’s ambitious goals.

The second day of the meeting delved deeper into the project’s technical aspects, with detailed discussions on the “prevent”, “avoid” and “mitigate” solutions being developed. Partners participated in sessions that explored strategies for engaging fishers, organizing events, and enhancing the project’s technological solutions. These interactive sessions provided a roadmap for upcoming activities, including planned fieldwork, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
