In September, NETTAG+ partners fishers’ associations and representatives launched a series of workshops with professional fishers across the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions. These workshops aim to raise awareness and discuss best practices for managing litter produced on board and the marine litter passively collected in fishing nets, as well as the use of alternative materials, ways to reduce emissions and measures to minimise bycatch.
Additional workshops are planned for late 2024 and early 2025. By empowering fishers to take an active role in the fight against marine pollution, these workshops position them as key guardians of the ocean. Upon the completion of all workshops, the educational materials will be made available in six languages – Croatian, English, Italian, Maltese, Portuguese, and Spanish – for broader use in other projects and initiatives.
