NETTAG+ Highlights Researcher-Fisher Collaborations at PREP4BLUE Webinar

On April 17th, 2024, the NETTAG+ project participated in the PREP4BLUE webinar titled “Positioning Fishers as Core Partners for Mission Ocean Projects”. This online event emphasized the vital role of fishers in achieving the objectives of the European Mission: Restore Our Ocean and Waters.

The webinar acknowledged fishers as invaluable stakeholders, recognising their extensive knowledge of marine ecosystems and their active presence in European waters. Discussions focused on the importance of integrating fishers into Mission Ocean and Waters projects as both active participants and key collaborators in tackling challenges such as pollution mitigation and the development of sustainable technologies.

NETTAG+ coordinators Sandra Ramos and Marisa Almeida from CIIMAR, alongside Bruna Silva from APMSHM—a representative of Portuguese fishers—shared practical insights. They discussed strategies to address challenges, seize opportunities for effective partnerships, and demonstrated how engaging fishers can significantly enhance the impact of projects focused on pollution prevention.
