NETTAG+ engages with the community at CIIMAR Open Day 2024

On September 22nd, CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research) hosted its annual Open Day at the Porto Cruise Terminal, welcoming over 17,000 visitors. This family-friendly event, held in conjunction with “Dia do Porto de Leixões,” showcased a variety of free activities, bringing science closer to the community.

The scientific exhibition, located next to CIIMAR’s labs, allowed researchers to share their cutting-edge work through interactive demonstrations, games, and marine-themed exploration activities.

NETTAG+ proudly participated, hosting hands-on activities designed to engage the public, especially younger visitors, about the growing problem of marine litter. Through a simulated beach clean-up, children learned first-hand how litter affects marine life and fisheries, and why it’s crucial to develop innovative solutions to tackle it.

Our activities aimed to raise awareness and inspire the next generation to take responsibility for ocean conservation. By focusing on the impacts of marine litter, NETTAG+ continues to promote the importance of adopting preventive measures to protect our oceans and marine ecosystems.
